Augusta Fire Rescue

Augusta Fire Rescue and Leeds + Grenville Emergency Medical Services have always worked closely together. For the last number of years Augusta Fire Rescue have been responding to some Medical calls at the same time as EMS in a tiered response.

The reason for this tiered response is to get Life Saving medical treatment to the patient as quickly as possible. Because in rural areas, the Fire Department can respond to some locations faster than EMS, it only makes sense to train our firefighters to assist patients with life threatening emergencies. Augusta Fire Rescue carry many different pieces of life saving equipment, including defibrillators at both of our stations. Our firefighters have been responsible for directly saving at least two lives, and who knows how many others with this program.

Augusta Fire Rescue will respond to the following Medical Emergencies:

1) Unconscious Patient
2) Vital Signs Absent
3) Airway or Breathing Compromised
4) Chest Pain With EMS Response Greater Than 15 Minutes
5) Any Life Threatening Calls with EMS Response Greater Than 30 Minutes
